More Great Small Triangle Towns

Tingen ConstructionCustom Home Building, Triangle Living

If you’re looking to move to the Triangle, you’re not alone! It’s one of the fastest growing areas in the United States because of it’s combination of affordability, a great job market, wonderful amenities and central location.

But that popularity brings a few problems. For one, property values in the bigger towns are starting to skyrocket. For another, people seeking peace and quiet or significant land may want to move further out. Thankfully, the Triangle’s small towns offer a combination of modern amenities with the charm of their rural past. Here are some more of our favorites.

Clayton

Located just Southeast of Raleigh, Clayton is a small town that – like many NC communities – has recently revitalized its historic downtown area. In Clayton you can grab a bite at Nancy Jo’s Homemade and then finish off the day at the river walk, or attend one of the free downtown concerts that run throughout the summer. It’s also home to the Neuse Golf Club, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Creedmoor

Located in the Northern region of the Triangle off of I-85, Creedmoor is best known as an easy gateway to Falls Lake. This sprawling, mostly undeveloped lake spans almost 12,000 acres and features seven access areas for boating, kayaking, and camping. There are also extensive bike and walking trails.

Creedmoor is also known as “mule town” due to its history as a tobacco farming community. Their smaller size and smaller feet kept them from trampling tobacco plants, and were a valuable commodity during its early days.

Hillsborough

Hillsborough might not technically be in the Triangle – it’s on the west side, closer to Burlington – but you’ll agree there’s no need to be pedantic once you visit. Hillsborough is one of the most desirable small towns in NC thanks to its trails along the beautiful Eno River, thriving arts scene, and lovely downtown area.

Hillsborough’s unusually high population of artisans, authors, and chefs have gotten it national attention in the New York Times.

Holly Springs

Few Triangle suburbs (save for maybe Cary) have grown as fast as Holly Springs. This town has more than doubled its population since 2000! It’s easy to see why: great local breweries (especially Bombshell), great parks, and easy access to outdoor activities at Harris Lake are just a few of the reasons.
